CHASING SHADOWS ON EMPTY STOMACH
One of the worst things that can happen to any human being is
idleness. It is said that an idle hand is a Devil’s workshop. Do I add that an
idle hand is not just a Devil’s workshop but a Devil’s wicked pastime. This is
because one of the things that gives Devil joy is wastage. Wastage can come in
form of time wastage, resources/material wastage, financial wastage even life
wastage. This is why we should run away from Devil’s puerilities.
In this present situation, people are dying because of past
mistakes of our leaders. Is it not wise this time around for our leaders to
manage time, money and resources very well rather than engage in more
unnecessary, unprofitable and unrewarding issues that will waste our times and
resources the more.
The issue this administration/its agents seem to address and
waste our time irrespective of hunger and deaths in our country, is the issue
of a man naming his dog “Buhari”.
Have people taken time to find out why the man has chosen to
give his dog the name – Buhari, whether it is for good intention knowing the
character of his dog or for bad intention. It may be that the man’s fortune has
changed for better since Buhari came into power or he has adopted garri as his
best food having probably discovered that garri contains the “needed balanced
diet.” The man might as well had designed a new formula of drinking garri like
drinking it without adding anything in the morning, drinking it with sugar in
the afternoon, and drinking it with groundnut worth ten Naira (N10.00) at night
as his dinner or he has found it difficult even to afford garri to eat. His
reason may also be that the dog has served him so well and has displayed
honesty even though he does not bring any economic gain or fortune to him but
has remained faithful, while looking thin and haggard with other puppies that
hold him in high esteem.
The so-called loyalists or cabals of Buhari could have found
out these reasons before trying to nail the man.
What is happening? Are we trying to live a jungle life. Keep
and tolerate who has the same power and influence with you and kill the one you
think you can overshadow or defeat – case of antelope and lion. While lion can
live and tolerate wilder, ferocious and other stronger animals, he kills and
feeds on antelope and other weaker animals. Survival of not even only the
fittest, but the fittest of the very fittests. What a world!
It can also be reasoned that why the lovers and followers of
Buhari are attacking the man is that he may be just an ordinary Nigerian that
is not too powerful.
I believe, if this issue is raised against some powerful
lawyers or Nigerians, if at all these loyalists could dare it, the man that has
so far named his dog Buhari may end up enriching his lawyers and himself with
the money he will realise from the damages he can genuinely claim. That is if
the rule of law is still being respected in Nigeria. If other-wise the rule of
law is meant to serve the richest and most powerful, the erudite lawyer, Chief
Femi Falana seemed to have noticed some 30 years ago, the man will end up in
jail and harassments. But if the rule of law is being respected, this case is
as good as being won by the man whose dog’s name is Buhari.
The damages reliable lawyers/ court will slam against
Buhari/his loyalists now or in future can change the man’s fortune for better
forever.
The man may not suffer so much forever as he can engage in
business transactions with the money. So, we can see that blaming the man under
whatever guise is a waste of time and chase of shadow. And this works adversely
against the interest of Nigerians whose body systems have been inundated with
APC/Buhari’s Blood of Change. This is a sheer waste of time and resources to be frank which is more
damaging to the image of APC/Buhari’s administration.
Let this administration focus on vital issues that affect the
lives of Nigerians, not useless and condemnable issues like just NAMING.
